Sundae Funday

We can remember those hot, sunny days when the sound of a bell chiming its way down the street meant only one thing; the ice cream truck was here, and we needed a dollar or two, ASAP.

Summertime soirĂ©es are in full swing, and a refreshing sundae bar is the perfect detail for the season. A wonderful alternative to a sweet table or candy buffet, have your guests create their own sundaes from a crafty display of flavours and toppings galore.

'Pop' Goes the Weasel

I live for sweet tables and find myself always looking for a newer and better idea to share and when this one 'popped' up, I was in love! If you or your groom are popcorn enthusiasts, why not wow your guests with a popcorn bar?  It is fun, playful, aesthetically pleasing and best of all, original! The other bonus about having popcorn served at your next event is it is easy for guests to enjoy while standing (there's nothing worse than trying to juggle your fork and wine glass).  Not to mention, the play on words you could use for 'popping' and 'pop' are endless. Fill your apothecary jars with different flavoured popcorn and add labels for a whimsical and memorable table.  And if popcorn is your thing, but you don't want to dedicate your whole sweet table to it, add labelled boxes filled with popcorn as a treat. Be creative with this idea and have fun!

After a recent trip to Chicago, I haven't been able to get the delicious Garrett's popcorn out of my head (or my teeth for that matter) and luckily it lead me to stumble upon these images:

Spring Trend Alert

“A mask of gold hides all deformities.” – Thomas Dekker

After attending the wedding shows earlier this year and the endless hours I spend on wedding webistes, it seems obvious that there is a major trend in wedding cakes taking over and I personally adore it!  Metallic hues are making a huge mark on the baking world and it looks like gold and silver cakes are going to be the ‘it’ thing this spring. For all of those brides tying the knot in the upcoming months, these are definitely note worthy cakes.  There is something so regal about a gold leaf cake and it looks spectacular when paired with spring and summer hues.  Marie Antoinette inspired sweet tables are nothing short of fabulous and what better centrepiece than an all-gold cake! Or picture a dessert table with miniature silver cakes and a 3 tiered silver masterpiece for guests to enjoy and swoon over.  The idea of adding some glitz and glamour to your wedding cake is top notch and I look forward to seeing them this upcoming season.

Here are some jaw-dropping metallic cakes to hit the stands (cake stands, that is) recently;

All Wrapped Up

It's no coincidence that tons of cutesy lil' cupcake shops have been popping up all over the map. Whether it's a box of home baked goodness to present to a gracious party hostess, or a tiered tower served up at a soiree, cupcakes have now established themselves a sweet staple in the pastry department.

Along with the ever-growing cupcake phenomenon has come the invention of fancy wrappers. Found at specialty bakeries, craft stores, and offered by various online retailers, cupcake wrappers are an excellent way to add pizzazz to your treats!

Wedding Ring Cupcake Wrapper - Your Little Cupcake (Etsy)
Cupcakes in Tuxedos - Alice in Cakeland (via Twitpic)
50 Big Hearts Cupcake Wrapper - Maison Rabbits Paperie (Etsy)
Ivory Rose Vine Lasercut Cupcake Wrapper - Accent the Party
Snowflake Embossed Mini Cupcake Wrappers - Two Paper Pals (Etsy)
Bella Cupcake Couture Wrappers (Assorted) - Save on Crafts
Toile Cupcake Wrappers - Paper Scissors Cake (Etsy)
Love Cupcake Wrappers - Well Dressed Cupcakes (Etsy)
Pink-Red-White Lace Cupcake Wrappers - Olivia's Paper Shoppe (Etsy)
Green and Gold Damask Cupcake Wrapper - Sugar Cat Studio (Etsy)

That's a wrap.

Frighteningly Fabulous

"Studio 54 made Halloween in Hollywood look like a PTA meeting. " - Lorna Luft

I think themed events are absolutely awesome. Whether it’s a Parisian brunch or a costume gala, I'm always down for an inspired soiree.

That being said (and this is not to offend anyone), I am NOT a big fan of a Halloween themed wedding. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Halloween; an excuse to dress up as ANYTHING and no matter what it be deemed acceptable, while shoving my face with chocolate and candy, is not a holiday to be missed. BUT, that’s best suited for a haunted bash and not holy matrimony.

So in honour of All Hallows Eve, I’d like to share with you some of my fave sweet 'n' spooky spreads;

Love at First Bite - Sweets Indeed

Halloween Glam Collection - Tom Kat Studio

Bat & Bones - Sandra Dowie Event Designs

Decorated Cookies - Sweetopia
Jolly Jack 'O' Lantern Cake Pops - Bakerella

Pumpkin Cheesecake - Pass the Sushi
Happy Halloween!

Petite Sweets

“Life is uncertain.  Eat dessert first.” – Ernestine Ulmer

We love dessert and more importantly, we looove the new fad with dessert bars.  Gone are the days of your traditional plated dessert and in are the days of themed and colour coordinated dessert displays.  The biggest craze is sweet tables filled with miniature versions of your favourite dessert. Besides being innovative and cute, they photograph beautifully.  The best way to display your mini desserts is to have them on assorted trays and tiers of different sizes and heights. It also creates a beautiful look to display your wedding cake in the middle of all your favourite minis.  You could also have servers handing out different desserts as they are easy to eat ‘on the go’.  By the time dessert is served the party is usually in full swing so these mini desserts will allow your guests to sample many sweets without leaving the dance floor or even sitting back down.  Your guests are also more likely to indulge because they will feel like they are having ‘just a taste’ rather than a full piece of cake.  These bite-sized treats will have everyone talking!

Check out below some beautifully displayed 'mini' dessert tables:

And now for some scrumptious looking mini desserts to serve at your affair:

Mini Tiramisu

Mini Apple Pies - how cute??

Mini Ice Cream Cones

Mini Nutella Cupcakes (I need these!!)

Mini Chocolate Pies with Meringue

Mini Brownies with Spoons and Mini Cheesecakes

Mini Whoopie Pies

After all, you know what they say...good things come in small packages.

Your truly,

A
